Do you love Mexican recipes but are afraid to try cooking it at home? Oh sure, everyone can toss together a taco or two, but do you cringe at anything more complicated? No worries! Mexican recipes are quite simple and they uses a lot of fresh ingredients, such as tomatoes, onions, peppers, and herbs like cilantro. So, you can make healthy Mexican meals at home the entire family will love.
Start with a simple recipe such as the ones we list here to get used to working with the ingredients. Remember, all Mexican food doesn't have to be spicy and hot. You can use hot chiles if you like, but you can also cut out a lot of the heat by removing the seeds and veins inside the chile before you chop it. In some cases, you even leave the chiles on the side of the plate and let your family members add enough to suit their own palates.
Cooking Tips
- The next time you a make Mexican recipe like tacos, choose corn or flour tortillas instead of the "cardboard" variety you find in the box on the Mexican food aisle. If you've never tried the fresh tortillas, you'll be amazed at their flavor and versatility.
- Try making your own fresh salsa. Just chop up some onions, garlic, tomatoes, and peppers, add some fresh chopped cilantro, and you've got a great, fresh side dish and accompaniment. You'll be surprised how easy it is to make your own salsa! For a smoky flavor, grill or roast the peppers before you add them.
- To warm tortillas, place a paper towel between each tortilla and heat them in the microwave for a few seconds.
