Ingredients for Browned Cornmeal Mush Recipe 1
- 3 cups hot cornmeal mush
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 egg
- Corn oil
- Corn syrup
- Fine dry bread crumbs
Instructions
- Pour the hot mush into a small, deep pan that has been rinsed with cold water.
- When mush has cooled, cut it in slices, then in halves.
- Dip each piece in the bread crumbs.
- Slightly beat the egg with 1/4 cup cold water.
- Dip the slices in the egg, then in the crumbs again.
- In the meantime, heat enough corn oil in a deep fat frying kettle to fill it halfway.
- Put the slices in the frying basket and fry until golden brown.
- Drain on crumpled paper and serve as a vegetable or as a breakfast or luncheon dish with corn syrup.
