Ingredients for Bread Pudding Recipe 1

  • 4 cups bread, diced
  • 3 tablespoons sultanas
  • 2 tablespoons chopped candied peel
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable shortening
  • Rind of 1 lemon
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 lumps of sugar

Instructions

  1. Put lump sugar in dry saucepan and heat until it turns dark brown.
  2. Add milk and stir it over heat until sugar dissolves.
  3. Mix bread, cleaned sultanas, chopped peel, sugar, vegetable shortening, grated lemon rind, and milk.
  4. Beat eggs and add the lemon juice.
  5. Let mixture stand for 1/2 an hour or longer if bread is stale.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased mold, cover piece of greased wax paper, and let steam for 2 hours.
  7. Turn carefully on to hot dish and serve with it any good sweet sauce.
