Instructions

  1. Remove the crust from slices of stale bread.
  2. Put the bread, spread with butter, into a pudding-dish in layers, alternating with blueberries.
  3. Sprinkle the blueberries with sugar, a little salt, and, if desired, a grating of nutmeg.
  4. Have generous layers of blueberries.
  5. Squeeze over the whole the juice of half a lemon, or add two tablespoons of water.
  6. Cover the dish, and let bake until the berries are tender.
  7. Then remove the cover, to brown the top.
  8. Serve with cream and sugar.
