Ingredients for Beaten Cornbread Recipe

  • ¾ cup white cornmeal
  • ¾ cup white flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Water

Instructions

  1. Mix and sift the dry ingredients and rub the butter thoroughly into the mixture with a fork.
  2. Add enough water to moisten the mixture throughout while leaving it crumbly crumbly.
  3. Spread on a board and beat thoroughly with a rolling pin or mallet, folding it over frequently to introduce air.
  4. Roll out about one-half inch thick, cut into small pieces, and bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 12 min.
