• 4 ounces of flour
• 1 ounce of butter
• ½ ounce of sugar
• 1 gill of water

1. Mix the flour with a quarter of pint of cold water to a smooth paste.
2. Dissolve the butter in a saucepan; then stir in the flour and the water.
3. Add the sugar last.
