Ingredients for Basic Hard Boiled Eggs Recipe
- 8 large eggs
- Water
Instructions
- Place your eggs in a pot and cover them with cold water so there is about an inch of water above the eggs.
- Place the pot on the stovetop over high heat, until the eggs reach a rolling boil.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow them to boil for an additional 10 minutes.
- At the end of the 10 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and set it in the sink. Immediately start pouring cold water into the pan, until all the hot water is replaced and the eggs are immersed in cold water. This prevents the eggs from continuing to cook and generally keeps the yolk from turning green (which is harmless, but yucky looking).
- Refrigerate your hard boiled eggs until you are ready to serve them or use them in a recipe.
Hint: It is easy to peel hard cooked eggs by gently rolling them on a hard surface to crack the shell, then peeling it off.
