Ingredients for Apples With Red Currant Jelly Recipe

  • 6 cooking apples
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 1 egg
  • Cake crumbs
  • Apricot jam
  • 6 glace cherries
  • Red currant jelly
  • Vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup syrup

Instructions

  1. Choose apples close to same size. Peel and core them carefully.
  2. Put syrup into stewpan or baking tin. Add apples and cook over fire or in oven until nearly done.
  3. Baste them occasionally with syrup.
  4. Let them get cold, then roll in flour.
  5. Brush over with beaten egg, toss in sifted cake crumbs, and fry in hot vegetable shortening until they turn a golden brown.
  6. Drain and fill centers with apricot jam.
  7. Cut out some rounds of red currant jelly, place 1 on top of each apple, and a glace cherry on that.
  8. Dish up and serve hot or cold.
  9. An apricot syrup should be served separately with apples.
