Artisan Chocolates

by Stephanie Stiavetti on October 28, 2009

Last week we talked about truffles, and by God, we’re going to talk about them again! If you’re not interested in making your own - a ridiculously easy feat, really - then you’re probably buying them from somewhere. You can buy decent truffles from many major chocolate chains, but are you really striving for decent? Perhaps you might aim your sites a little higher and consider buying your decadent treats from an artisan chocolatier.

Now, I’m not trying to be a food snob here, but I really can’t express how big a difference there is between chain-made truffles and artisan truffles. In fact, I challenge you to march right out and go to an artisan chocolate shop (you’re bound to have one in your area) to sample their wares. Then compare to those that you’re buying at the mall or drug store.

Ok, are you back yet? What do you think? I’m totally open to being proven wrong, so please let me know what you found. Do you think that mass-produced truffles are just as good as artisan chocolates?
